Town of Italy 45th Anniversary Fashion Show
The Girls' Town of Italy, San Francisco Committee held their 45th anniversary
Fashion Show luncheon on Tuesday, December 4th in the Grand Ballroom
of the Fairmont Hotel.
Lily
Samii, well-known designer in San Francisco showed ber beautiful creations
which created a lot of excitement on the runway.
Joel Bartlett, the Master of Ceremonies welcomed all the guests. Joel
is the retired meteorologist from Channel 7 KGO- TV who was the long-time
weather anchor on the ABC Morning News, midday newscast and week-end
news.
Suzie
Woodward Morris, General Chairwoman for the 45th Anniversary event gave
greetings to all the guests and introduced Bro. Ray Vercruysse, Director
of The Institute for Catholic Education Leadership at the University
of San Francisco who represented Bro.
Anthony
D'Adamo, Executive Vice President of Girls' Town of Italy, who was unable
to attend the event this year. Brother Vercruysse made a special presentation
to Bella Farrow, Honorary General Chairwoman in recognition of her 15
years of serving as General Chairwoman for the Girls' Town of of Italy
Committee.
Bella
Farrow, one of San Francisco's most prominent social personalities was
moved by this special recognition and expressed her appreciation to
all her friends who supported her in making this event such a successful
and memorable one.
The
hair and make-up for the models was again donated by Sherlee Rhine of
77 Maiden Lane. The wine served to the guests was donated by Southern
Wine and Spirits. Giovanni the "Margarita King" also donated
the Margarita's at the reception that was held prior to the luncheon.
Brother
Vercruysse presented a ceramic plate made in Boys' Towns of Italy to
Sherlee Rhine for her years of arranging for her people to donate their
time for the hair and make-up for the models, as well as to Giovanni
"The Margarita King" for his years of donating his margaritas
for the reception and to Marie Mitchell for her generous donation of
the centerpieces which she has done for a number of years.
Girls'
Town of Italy was founded 52 years ago when Linda Darnell was making
a movie in Rome and saw young girls in the area in need of a proper
home. As an engagement gift from her future husband, she requested that
a villa be built for these young girls in need. Msgr.
John
Carroll-Abbing, founder of Boys' Towns of Italy was approached to help
these poor young girls. Today the young girls who are citizens of Girls'
Town come from all parts of the world to receive an education in their
self-governing democratic communities to help prepare them for a better
future.
