Boys’ Towns of Italy Ball of the Year
The Boys' Towns of Italy San Francisco Committee will hold the annual "Ball of the Year" on Saturday, May 10th in the Grand Ballroom of the Fairmont Hotel. Mr. Roy Van Pelt will be honored as the "2008 Man of the Year". Lois Lehrman was honored at the Ball held in 2007 as the "2007 Woman of the Year" and it was a most successful event.
Mr. Van Pelt has been a generous supporter of this charity for a number of years and the Committee is looking forward to honoring him as an expression of their gratitude. Roy Van Pelt is partner of Lathrop Construction Associates in Benicia, California since 1960. He and his wife Sandy have 2 children and have been married for 40 years. Roy has been involved with the Boys' Towns of Italy Committee for many years and is a strong believer in the work this great American Charity has been doing for the past 63 years.
He has been inspired by the Founder, Msgr. Carroll-Abbing's vision to help give children in need a "chance in life" in their democratic self-governing communities. Mr. Larry Nibbi, Dinner Chairman of the Committee has advised the Committee that this year's Journal wil1 be the largest one they have printed since this event started, which was in 1959 when Cyril Magnin was the Chairman and this is due to people responding to Roy Van Pelt being honored.
Bro. Anthony D'Adamo, Executive Vice President of Boys' Towns of Italy, will be attending the event to bring greetings from all the youngsters in Boys' Towns of Italy who today come from 5 continents and are given new hope in life because of the generous support of the San Francisco Committee. Tickets for the Ball may be obtained by contacting 415/648-2024.
