American Society of the Italian Legions of Merit Meet in New York City

Attending the American Society of the Italian Legions of Merit in New York City at the office of the Consulate General of Italy were from L to R: Cavaliere Rosemarie Licata, Commendatore Frank J. DeSantis, Society President and Grand Ufficiale Dominic Massaro, Commendatori Joseph Cerrell and Dr. Eugene Casagrande.

The officers and member board meeting was followed by a lecture and reception at the Columbus Townhouse. The next day a special program was conducted by the staff of the Italian Cultural Institute about the Role and Function of Italy’s Cultural Institutes in the United States. Various programs were discussed and a lot was gained by those present. A grand reception, banquet and silent auction were held at the Columbus Club which included musical entertainment. Joseph Cerrell was reelected regional vice president for a two year term ending in 2008. Eugene Casagrande was a newly elected director for Arizona also serving a two year term through 2008.

Donation to Italian Hall by Italian Legion of Merit and Renaissance Foundation
The Historic Italian Hall Christmas Party was held on December 6 at the Pico House in historic downtown Los Angeles. This was an excellent venue for check presentations made by the Society of the Italian Legions of Merit and the Orange County American Italian Renaissance Foundation and Sons of Italy Renaissance Lodge #2259 for restoring this historic museum. Checks were presented to the newly elected president, Josephine Mahoney.

Participating in the check presentation were Marianna Gatto, curator, President Mahoney, Cavaliere Frank Claro, Legions Director and Commendatori Frank J. DeSantis Sr. and Robert Barbera, and Luisa Del Giudice, Director of the Italian Oral History Institute with was also presented a check on behalf of the Society for collecting and preserving materials on the Italians in California.
