“Songs from the second floor” – Italian experimental theatre in L.A.

The theatre company Tecnologia Filosofica invites you to “SONGS FROM THE SECOND FLOOR” (Canzoni del Secondo Piano) this December 9, 7 pm, at the Raymond Kabbaz Theatre of Los Angeles.
“Songs from the Second Floor” draws inspiration from the colors and the suggestions of the title of a Swedish short film by director Roy Andersson and from the visions linked up with that title.

From those suggestions was born the idea of a new theatre-dance work of the company: “Songs from the Second Floor” is a choreographic representation of an ideal, grotesque and unreal co-housing in which the inhabitants continually live in moving, looking lost, bewildered and fragile, between incoherencies and daily miseries. It moves through the little and the big troubles of life, describing the human miseries always poised between the tragic and the comic.

Through dance and acting, the company explores contemporary themes with irony, freshness and levity.
The original soundtrack is one thing with the action. Played live, it moves from the cliché of the Italian songs and from the quotations borrowed from famous Italian musicians such as Mina, Giuni Russo and Ornella Vanoni, re-arranged and re-elaborated in a personal key.

The center of the scene is a door, simple and essential symbol of a precarious, transmigrating and moving daily life. It represents the undefined obstacles that prevent us from meeting ourselves, and only let us imagine what happens behind it. In the meantime, on the second floor, are playing the songs, words of love in the doubtful night, beating the time and the dance of the human relations.

The Italian company Tecnologia Filosofica works from 2000 in artistic research and contamination through different disciplines, with a particular attitude in physical works and questions about the meaning of "presence" on the scene. It is a combination of dance and theatre, where the dancer-actor is the author of his own work. The company in fact, has chosen not to have a permanent director. The leadership can change for different projects, stimulating a dynamic work and a permanent confrontation between the artists. Main objects of research are common life situations and social themes, investigated with an ironic point of view, using lightness as skill to question deep troubles and contradictions of reality.

The open attitude to meet other artists and different points of view about creation, complete the company's identity. In the same way, the group often invites foreign artists in its work places in Italy to show their works and to share artistic practices in multidisciplinary residency projects.

Tecnologia Filosofica is recognized and sustained by public cultural institutions in Italy since 2007 and it's improving its artis- tic experience, opening activities on international scene.
The event is organized by IIC Los Angeles and Theatre Raymond Kabbaz/Le Lycée Francais de Los Angeles, which will also offer a workshop on December 10. The artists of the company will lead the participating group to the patterns that have inspired the creation and the composition of “Songs from the Second Floor”, by touching physical, chorographical and expressive aspects.
