One of the most important literary critics, Francesco De Sanctis, remembered in a symposium at UCLA and IIC
The Department of Italian, the College of Letters and Science, the Franklin D. Murphy Chair in Italian Renaissance Studies, and the Italian Cultural Institute, Los Angeles are proud to present a symposium on Italian literary critic, Francesco De Sanctis. The conference entitled “La Passione dominante: Francesco De Sanctis and the Relevance of Literary Criticism” will take place at UCLA and at the Italian Cultural Institute, Los Angeles on April 28-30, 2011.
This event is part of ITALY 150, a series of activities organized throughout the United States under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Italy, that celebrates the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy. The organizers, Professor Massimo Ciavolella (UCLA) and Professor Luigi Ballerini (UCLA), believe that it is through literature that Italy is truly unified, and thus remembering one of the most important Italian literary critics is another way to celebrate the unification of Italy.
Also, this symposium will address the importance of literary criticism, a theme which deserves more attention in academic departments as well as with a broader readership.
This program is free and open to the public, however, seating is limited. Parking will be available for
$10 on the UCLA campus. For further information, please contact Dacia Imakura at dacia @humnet.ucla.edu
