Make a difference at St.Peters
Located in the old section of Los Angeles, formerly Little Italy, St. Peters is a becon of hope for Italians and those in need of help. Its hard to believe that in such a great city as Los Angeles we have a multitude of people stuggling to eat and survive. Compassion, care and common sense make the help that St. Peters Italian Catholic Church provides to those in need of help a blessing. Y ou too can help and make a difference during this lenten season by volunteering or providing contributions of blankets, clothing, food, or funds.
According to Father Raniero Allassandrini, any help is welcome and the Italian community has been a leader in providing help to those in need. St. Peters feeds over 100 people a day free from 10AM to 12PM and many volunteers come to help every day. Some of the volunterrs are Mr. & Mts. Gallidoro, Rose Ritchie, Sophie Power and Johny Angiuli. Another way to help is to attend the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at St. Peters. This event is being dedicated to help feed and cloth people in desparate need. The Mass and feast will be held on July 17, 2011, the Mass at 11:00 AM and the dinner at 1:00 PM.
The contribution for a wondeful Italian dinner at Casa Italiana is $45.00 and two tickets to Italy provided by Merano Travel will be raffled off.
I met with Johnny Angiuli who has spent countless hours volunterring and providing help for this program. At the East Side Market Italian Deli, Johnny Angiuli, with his family is taking the orders, making the food and wondering how to make this event a success. His dedication to helping others is evident as he is selfless with his time and works hard to continue serving Los Angeles.
Johnny has been President of the Saint Anthony’s Society at St. Peter’s for over 20 years, he contributes to the church, the society and many other community activities and is known as a kind and generous man. After hearing about his concern, I assured him that Italians from all areas of Southern California will rally to help this cause. Its not just a local call but one that affects us all. Mark your calendar, send a check and be a part of a cause that really makes a difference to many, many people.
