Venice looks to restore Rialto Bridge. Donors wanted for multi-million-euro job

Venice approved a study Friday into a proposed restoration of the Rialto Bridge. If deemed feasible, the plan would launch the first restoration of the historic bridge on the Grand Canal in over 30 years. Restoration is estimated to take 18 months, due for completion in April 2015. An estimated 20 million tourists trample Venice's ancient pavement every year [...]

Italian American Museum Benefit Hosted by the Tommy Lasorda Family & Cimmarusti Family Draws Hundreds
Saturday, April 21, 2012 was a sun-kissed afternoon in Malibu, California. Nestled in the dramatic hills overlooking the sparkling waters of the Pacific, one could easily mistake the scene for the Amalfi Coast or the Italian Riviera. The atmosphere was equally Italian: warm smiles, welcoming arms, joyful chatter and laughter. It was on that afternoon that Los Angeles legends, four generations of a family and community members gathered together in support of the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles.

It marks a date that denotes when the country, where many of us were born, became a republic founded on labor resulting from a national referendum that abolished the monarchy of the reigning House of Savoy. It was June 2, 1946.
